Summer Shred - Day 1

Lately I have been really frustrated with my body. I feel like I am doing everything right to lose fat and gain strength, but something just wasn’t clicking the way it was before.

After about two months of this frustration, I stumbled across a before and after photo of a fitness coach’s client on Instagram. I had been following this particular person for a while so I knew a bit about their workout and fitness philosophy and it generally connected with mine.

Seeing the honestly super impressive progress photos and knowing how annoyed I was with my current routine, I looked into her programs. She was in the middle of having a flash sale so I decided to impulse purchase her Summer Shred 2018 Part 2 Program.

I read it over and watched her videos and was still a little skeptical going into it. After all, this is just some random person on the internet, how good could the program possibly be.

I gathered the necessary equipment and put my gym bag together for the next day expecting to be underwhelmed when I started the workout the next day after work.

Boy was I wrong.

From the first set this program was kicking my ass. The first day is Legs/Glutes and while I expected some of the sets to be difficult, I definitely didn’t expect to be dripping sweat 20 minutes in.

Her program appears to combine strength training with cardio. The sets with weights require you to increase the weight until you are almost failing to complete the set. I managed to get all of them, but was definitely on the verge of failing.

The workout took me about an hour and 5 minutes and then it called for 20 minutes of steady state cardio. I was so wiped by that time that I only did 10 (I had taken a 10-minute walk in the 100+ degree heat earlier in the day so I still got the 20 in technically.)

I looked down at my Apple watch and saw that I had burned over 600 active calories and was approaching over 750 total calories. For an hour and 15-minute workout! Needless to say, I am now a believer that this program is for real.

I measured myself this morning so I could track my progress:

Chest – 40

Waist – 31

Hips – 39

Butt – 41

I’m going to keep tracking my macros too. I’m not going to make any extreme changes to how I eat, but I am going to be more cognizant of sugar and make sure I am getting in the right amount of water.

The whole reason I even started this was because I had an abstract goal of being happier with my body and making progress by our September trip to California. That’s coming up in about a month and while I have made some progress, it hasn’t been fast or efficient enough.

My hope is that this Summer Shred program will kick my body into action and get me back on track for my goals. I have 4 weeks to see what happens. Fingers crossed I don’t die today. It’s Shoulders and arms and those are absolutely my weakest muscles.
