Restarting Meditation

Before traveling to Chicago for Thanksgiving, I researched some healthy flying suggestions. One of my favorite bloggers and Instagrammers, Lee From America said that she has a lot of anxiety when she flies so she uses the Calm App on her phone to do a pre-flight meditation after she settles in her seat.
When we boarded the flight from ATL to CHI, I decided to try it.

I just did a basic three-minute breathing exercise. Something to calm me down and It worked. I was able to settle and relax throughout the entire flight.
I use to meditate every day before work in Ohio. It was just a short two-minute meditation but it helped me a lot.
Between the business of the wedding and move, I lost touch with my practice. I knew I needed to get back into it, but I felt a little overwhelmed at where to start.
After trying that 3-minute meditation on the plane to Chicago, I decided to go for it and buy the premium app for Calm. I started meditating right when we got back from Thanksgiving.
For the last three weeks, I have been meditating every morning Monday through Friday and every Sunday evening. I always do the Daily Calm meditation. It’s the new meditation that is released every morning on the app.
Each Daily Calm meditation goes for about 10 minutes and it focuses a lot on breathing, developing your meditation practice, becoming present and leaves you with a good thought/mission to take into your day.
I thought that meditation was more than likely a bunch of nonsense. A ploy to get people to pay for something they won’t ever see pay off in their daily lives.
I am here to tell you…I was wrong. So unbelievably wrong.
I am already seeing the extreme benefits of meditation. Those 10 minutes each morning have made me so much more focused at work. I can start a task and focus on it and it alone for significantly longer than I use to be able to.
I have also been so much better at managing anxiety and stress. This last week, this that would have caused me to spiral into a mess of anxiety and tears only pulled me down for a second. I was able to breathe, pull myself to the present, sit in the moment, and bring myself to a logical and calm conclusion.
I’ll admit, I’m so surprised that the meditation has been as helpful as it has been. In the three short weeks that I have been doing it, it has changed my perspective entirely.
If you find yourself struggling to stay focused, feel like you are being held hostage by your anxiety, or want to be more present, I cannot recommend the Calm app enough. If you don’t want an app, there are tons of meditation Youtube channels that work great too!
I challenge you to try to meditate at least 10 times in the next two weeks. See what it does to your perspective and outlook then let me know if you tried in the comments and if you found any great meditations!
I’m excited to continue my practice and learn more about meditating.
